Why get involved with politics

It has taken most of my life to understand why I am more than just passionate about politics. I am in my 73rd year on this earth and was fortunate enough to have been born in America the land of the free. I had nothing to do with where or when I was born so let's just say I was not born with a silver spoon in my mouth. It may have been tin but not gold or some other precious metal. I have always worked at the whim or behest of someone else.

I can't say that I'm any better or worse than the guy next door but I can say that I am not satisfied with where I am today. I thought, like my father and grandfather before me, that if you worked hard and kept your nose to the grindstone you would be properly rewarded.
That's B.S.

I started working when I was 14 at the local grocery and have worked ever since, that is, until I had a stroke four years ago. I was the first and only member of my family to graduate from college which I'll admit made me more valuable to my employer, but it did not keep me from suffering the ups and downs of the economy. When times were good, things were good, when times were bad, everything that I had built came apart.

What I have learned from this is as it turns out is quite simple. You are the only one who gives a hoot about you. Not the rich man across town nor the poor man who may live next door. If you don't take care of you, no one else will. If you don't act on your behalf, no one else is going to come to your rescue. Your the only one who cares about you so why not act like it.

If you care about you, come back later. There is more to life than just passing through.
