The answer is no! Many Independents register with Republicans or Democrats so they can vote more effectively. It's to bad but most states don't hold open primary's. To counter this, most Independents chose the lesser of two evils in order to vote for or against a candidate. Keep in mind that of the 167 million who registered, there are only 55 million registered Republican voters, and 72 million registered Democratic voters. Without the 39 Million registered Independent voters, neither party can muster the majority in any election. Neither the "Party of No" or the "Party of Yes we can" can succeed without the "Party of where the hell are we going?".
P.S. about 14% of those registered "never" voted!
