Response to London's agony requires resolve, solidarity

Few nations are as resilient as Britain, having endured years of attacks by the Irish Republican Army, not to mention the Nazi Blitz, when thousands of bombs were dropped on London. Prime Minister Tony Blair greeted the moment with typical eloquence: "It is important that those engaged in terrorism realize that our determination to defend our values and our way of life is greater than their determination to cause death and destruction to innocent people in a desire to impose extremism on the world."

London's horror is a reminder that resolve, not complacency, is required to combat that extremism.
