Texas has been a pretty scary place to live since Ann Richards was bludgeoned by the Bush political machine. It takes a lot of courage to speak up here if you are not behind Bush 100%, but some people still have the fortitude to do that. Mollie Ivans and Liz Carpenter are two of them. The Crawford Iconoclast is another example of courage.
Even though a lot of people do not speak up because of the probability of immediate censure or worse, there are a lot of us here who are adamantly opposed to Bush and all he stands for. Bumper stickers in opposition to anything Bush promotes are generally not displayed. Who wants to have their car damaged or have a gun pulled on them? That's not an exaggeration.
I know someone who had a gun pulled on him by a stranger who called him a "liberal". With the right to carry laws here and the constant right wing rants about "liberal" bogeymen, it had to happen.
During the election, I saw a man stop and gesture angrily at a car with a Kerry sticker and comment "I ought to burn it".
Right wing propagandists have done a very effective job of stirring hate. I have not seen anything like it since Vietnam. It doesn't even make sense.
Republicans hold power in both congress and the white house, and still the hate mongers rant on about the dangers of "liberals".
What makes the least sense to me is that they are supposed to be born again Christians. Born of what to do what is my question.
Fact: Clinton left a stain on Monicas dress, Bush is leaving a stain on the world.
