Looks Like I'm the last one still standing

My sister died earlier this week and they buried her today. My brother's widow called to share the news she received with equal timing. My sister and I haven't spoken since my brother's funeral. Before that, it was at my Mother's funeral and before that we had a long conversation at my Father's funeral.

By now you must have figured out that we didn't talk all that much. Just at funerals and then only to pass the time of day. We had a falling out some years ago over something extremely important "I think??" but no one can remember what triggered the hostilities.

We were never close even when we were growing up. Once we were adults, it was a matter of convience. If it helped the current cause then we spoke otherwise not.

We are all products of our environment, the results of which we more often than not, display like they were banners or badges of courage. instead of traits we should have left behind.

I hope she's found a better place than what she's left behind.
